SRAGEN - Suyatni’s face (35) is glowing despite her shoulders look tired because of carrying on her youngest son, Syaiful (5). The apple of her eyes is suffering from heart defects since infant, due to prematurity and lack of weight. When Syaiful’s peers jokes cheerfully in kindergarten, this handsome boy practically cannot leave his parents, though just for moving his head. As seen on Thursday October 1st when this mother and son attended The Socialization of Donation Program for Severe Disabled People in Sukowati Room. By using the tip of her old scarf, Suyatni appeared intermittently wiping Syaiful’s wet chin.

Severe disabled person is someone who is not able to move limbs independently. In day-to-day activities, he should be assisted by someone else entirely. He was also forced to live his entire life in such circumstances, because the defects can not be rehabilitated. Disability criteria as this will get the assistance worth USD 300 thousand per month, from the Ministry of Social Affairs through PT Pos Indonesia. This was conveyed by Head of Social Departments Drs. Supriyatno on that occasion.

This assistance is free of charge. This means that each month they will receive that sum of money, without any obligation. Supriyatno said, this money purely for the consumption of severe disability in order to improve nutrition, light treatment, fulfilling the needs of clothing, and the various needs of life.

According to the Second Assistant Secretary Ir. Endang Handayani, MM, Sragen regency is one of four cities in Central Java who became a pilot project for social programs. This is an implementation of government concern to severe disabled people to improve the quality of their lives.

Endang added, the program is scheduled to be tested for five years. The donation is given   a support for phase II which is handed over to 199 severe disabled people in Sragen. While, the first phase was conducted in 2008 and received by 136 people.

The mechanism of the Donation Program was explained by the head branch of PT Pos Indonesia Sragen Joko Santoso. He said that the recipient will be given a Social Security card for Disable Persons (JSPC), as the evidence for receiving the money. The donation will be given every month by the postman. It will be handed over directly to the recipients in their own house, by matching the card data of Mr. Post and JPSC cards held by people with disabilities. (Peppy translated by ryan)
